General Maintenance

Alvey reels are built from the highest grade components to suit Australia's harsh environmental conditions. To ensure the best performance they will however require regular maintenance.

To keep your reel in great condition always do the following:

1. Rinse your reel in fresh-water after salt-water use.

2. Use lubricant such as Alvey oil or sewing machine oil on all moving parts including drag washers if applicable.

3. Lightly grease the spindle ONLY. Using grease around the drag pawl or other parts inside of the backing plate will attract sand and cause a malfunction.

4. Replace old and worn washers as necessary.
